TEXTILE 1.0

2024
Various fibers, electronics, and digital video projection on steel structure
70.5. x 94.5 x 24 inches
Video duration 8 minutes

TEXTILE 1.0 combines weaving, video, and electronic textiles to imagine the kind of technology we might have in our homes if technology had evolved differently in the 20th century. The modular steel structure is based on the proportions of home kitchen cabinetry and appliances, while the gridded patterns of the hand-woven textiles evoke mainframe computer panels and factory machinery. The four mini-videos projected onto the surface demonstrate the imagined functionality of this computer-appliance-machine hybrid. TEXTILE 1.0 was commissioned for a solo exhibition at the Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum in 2024.
